Brian McMullen

McMullen carries on the tradition of Classical Realism, one that conveys ideas, beliefs and hopes that are identifiable in form and universal meaning to its audience.

McMullen's training and artistic development followed the classic European sculptural methodology -- working in monument shops and stone quarries under veteran Italian and French artists and building his skills. Today, McMullen is considered a Master Sculptor and Master Stone Carver, titles awarded by the European Stone Carvers Union.

His commissioned work can be seen across the country in the forms of monuments, architectural detail, portraiture and private collections.

Artist's Statement

Through my artwork, I strive to celebrate what it means to be truly human.

In a society that continues to dehumanize through abstract representations of who we are, I want to dignify humanity in an honest and real manner. My work celebrates the fundamental human emotions as they are captured in subtle nuances of form and style. In our noisy and abstract society, we use so many indirect ways of getting to where we quintessentially want to be, often losing sight of the true beauty in the world that surrounds us.

Although my work is static, movement and emotion emanate from it. My art reflects a return to the clarity, essence, and beauty of the human experience. I hope that all who view my work can take with them a small glimmer of this ideology.
